Scientist from Karachi University appointed as UNESCO chair-holder:


Professor Dr. Iqbal Choudhary, Alma mater being University of Karachi and 3 major awards holder (Tamgha-e-Imtiaz, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Hilal-e-Imtiaz), a scientist in Organic Chemistry and a researcher of Natural Product Chemistry. He was recognised as the 2nd most productive Scientist in Pakistan in 2015.

He has been appointed as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) chair-holder of the newly established UNESCO chair on Medicinal and Bio-Organic Natural Product Chemistry. The Director-General UNESCO approved this appointment in Paris.

This is the first international UNESCO Chair in UoK, 4th in Pakistan. This will definitely help Pakistan to excel in research and to address the UN sustainable development goals.

Professor Atta ur Rahman (ICCBS Patron-in-chief and chairman of Prime Minister's Tak Force on Science and Technology), Vice-Chancellor UoK Prof. Dr. Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, and the Director representative of UNESCO in Pakistan Ms Patricia McPhilips all congratulated Professor Choudhary for his achievement.
